Stephen joined the Executive Team in July 2015 to lead BITC’s environmental sustainability and marketplace work, as well as BITC’s sustainability partnership for the global hotel industry (ITP).

In this role, Stephen has developed the “smart growth” strategy for BITC’s environmental agenda, including the launch of the Circular Economy Taskforce. At the same time, he led the development of BITC’s focus on Purpose-Driven Brands with the Marketplace team, demonstrating how companies can achieve greater commercial success by aligning core business with societal challenges and the Global Goals.

In spring 2017 Stephen also took on responsibility for all of BITC’s international work, as well as insights, innovation and sector development across the organisation.

Stephen studied Modern Languages at Oxford University, before a career combining travel and tourism with sustainable development, including time at British Airways, VisitBritain and the RSA. Stephen serves on the Advisory Board of Sustainable Aviation as well as EDF Energy’s Sustainable Business Panel, and is a regular speaker at conferences and events. He is married with two children and is a qualified Executive Coach. In late 2013 Steve led the successful transfer of ITP from the former International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) to become part of Business in the Community.
